Mountain gorillas live exclusively in two distinct ecosystems: the Virunga Volcanoes, a chain of eight extinct and semi-active volcanoes straddling the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo; and the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda.
