Gorilla Habituation

3-Day Rwanda Primates Safari

Discover Rwanda’s incredible primates on this 3-day adventure to Volcanoes National Park, the country’s premier destination for mountain gorilla encounters. Your journey takes you from Kigali’s bustling streets through Rwanda’s scenic countryside and into the misty forests where endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys roam free. Along the way, you’ll explore Musanze’s charming villages, track primates through the national park’s rich ecosystem (home to diverse birdlife and other wildlife), and visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for an authentic look at Rwandan traditions — including meaningful conversations with reformed poachers now dedicated to protecting the wildlife they once hunted.

Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park (approx. 2.5-hour drive)

Your adventure starts with pickup from your hotel, or directly from Kigali International Airport if arriving on a morning flight. Spend the morning exploring Kigali on a guided city tour, including stops at local markets and the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial. Afterward, travel onward to Musanze, gateway to Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll settle in for dinner and rest ahead of tomorrow’s trek.

The hike itself rewards you with sweeping views of the volcanic landscape. Afterward, return to your lodge to relax and recharge, with an overnight stay to follow.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trek & Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, meet your guide for transfer to park headquarters for a briefing before setting out — packed lunch in hand — to track golden monkeys through the forest. This trek follows a similar format to gorilla trekking but is typically less demanding. Once finished, return to the lodge for lunch, then begin your transfer back to Kigali, either to your accommodation or straight to the airport for your onward flight home.
