Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 — Kampala/Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The driver-guide picks you at 7:00 AM from your hotel near Entebbe International Airport. The drive to Bwindi includes a stop at the Equator for photos, followed by lunch in Mbarara. You’ll reach Bwindi in the late afternoon in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 — Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Mgahinga

After an early breakfast, head to park headquarters for your trekking briefing, where your guide outlines the day’s rules and safety guidelines. You’ll be assigned a gorilla family based on your preferred trek length, then set off into the forest. Once you find the gorillas, you get a full hour to observe and photograph them before hiking back to headquarters to collect your trekking certificate.

Day 3 — Mount Sabinyo Hike

Today’s climb takes you up Mount Sabinyo, a Virunga volcano accessible only from within the park. Its 3,645-meter (11,959 ft) summit marks the tripoint where Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo meet — and its slopes shelter some of the world’s most endangered mountain gorillas.

The terrain is rugged, cut by sharp ridges and old craters. Reaching the summit takes roughly 8 hours, with a similar descent time, depending on your pace and weather conditions. Walking sticks are provided free of charge, and porters are available on request. Along the way, you’ll pass through several vegetation zones, including a bamboo belt between 2,400 and 2,800 meters. After a packed lunch at the top, you’ll begin the descent, arriving back at your lodge in time for dinner and an overnight stay.
