4-Day Kidepo Valley National Park Safari
This 4-day safari combines rhino tracking with a classic Kidepo Valley adventure, taking travellers from Kampala/Entebbe into Uganda’s remote northeastern wilderness and back. Along the way, guests track one of the “big five” — the white rhino — before continuing north to Kidepo, a park recognised by CNN as one of the top three national parks to visit in Africa. Kidepo Valley National Park sits in the far northeastern corner of Uganda, bordering South Sudan and Kenya. It’s defined by vast open savanna unlike anything else found in the country, seasonal rivers, dramatic landscapes, and a rich diversity of wildlife and birdlife — making it a true, remote African safari destination.
Wildlife and Birdlife
Kidepo is home to a wide range of game, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, African hunting dogs, elands, dik-diks, Jackson’s hartebeests, giraffes, and elephants.
The park also functions as an important bird sanctuary, hosting over 470 recorded species. Notable birds include the Karamoja Apalis, Black-breasted Barbet, Ring-necked Spurfowl, Yellow-billed Shrike, Golden Pipit, Taita Fiscal, Lesser Kestrel, Rufous Chatterer, Fox’s Cisticola, Fox’s Weaver, Pallid Harrier, Black-winged Pratincole, White-crested and White-bellied Go-Away birds, Hartlaub’s Turacos, Dusky Turtle Dove, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, Jackson’s and African Pied Hornbills, and the Emin’s Shrike, among many others.

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Kitgum via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
The journey begins after breakfast with the drive north toward Kidepo Valley. Since the park can’t be reached in a single day, the route is broken up with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track rhinos — one of the members of the big five.
Uganda’s rhino population had declined to near extinction, and Ziwa was established as a breeding sanctuary that also gives visitors the rare chance to observe these animals in their natural habitat.
After the tracking experience, the group continues on to Gulu town for lunch before arriving in Kitgum in the evening for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Kidepo Valley National Park and Evening Game Drive
Following breakfast, the group heads to Kidepo Valley National Park, arriving by mid-morning. After checking into the lodge and having lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to an evening game drive in search of the park’s resident wildlife — lions, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, elephants, and leopards among them.
Kidepo’s dramatic open landscape offers excellent photo opportunities, and the sunsets here are considered especially memorable. The group returns to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive, Hot Springs, and Cultural Village
After an early breakfast, the group sets out for a morning game drive through the northern part of the park, crossing the Kidepo River. This area offers strong chances of spotting ostriches and cheetahs, since early morning is typically the best time to observe predators active in the wild.
The morning also includes a visit to the Kanatarok Hot Springs, close to the South Sudanese border. After this experience, the group returns to the lodge for lunch, and the afternoon is spent visiting a Karamojong cultural village.
The Karamojong culture shares similarities with the Maasai of Kenya, with communities living in large settlements of huts known as manyattas.
Day 4: Return to Kampala/Entebbe
The final day involves the long return drive from Kidepo back to Kampala/Entebbe — roughly 10–11 hours, though scenic throughout. The group stops for lunch along the way before arriving back in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening, marking the end of the tour.
